Three Mistakes to Avoid When Moving

If this is your first time moving, there are several moving mistakes that you must avoid at all costs. Moving is already stressful on its own – but – if you don’t plan things carefully, there is a good chance that you will make your entire moving experience more stressful than it really has to be.

Without further ado, let us jump into the list of three moving mistakes to avoid.

Not Decluttering in Advance

You don’t need to take all of your belongings to your new house. There are many things that you own that you can donate or discard. On that note, it is incredibly important to do your homework and sift through your belongings carefully. Decluttering your belongings is incredibly important to organize your things before you start the packing phase of the move.

Of course, your hired movers will help you move your belongings from one place to another – but – it is your responsibility to decide what you are taking and leaving. Decluttering is still important if you are planning to move to a bigger home.

Leaving Things for the Last Minute

We cannot stress enough the importance of packing early. The worst thing you can do is to start packing late. Believe us when we tell you that it might look easy to you when you are dealing with things from a distance, but the moment you roll up your sleeves and start to work on the packing phase of your moving, you will realize that you should have started at least three months before the final moving date

Starting the entire packing is even more important when you are juggling your job and looking after your family. The more you have going on in your life, the sooner you should start working on the packing stage of your moving project.

On that note, it is equally crucial to avoid packing too early. The reason is that you need access to a lot of things, and if you start too early – let us say, six months, then you are certainly limiting yourself in a way that can be annoying.

Not Being Mindful of Packing Materials

By hiring the right removalist, you can ensure that your boxes are transported from place A to place. But – while it is incredibly easy to fill up the boxes with your belongings, you should have a clear idea about how many boxes you will need for the final move. On that note, you should never leave things to the last minute and wait for a miracle to happen.

Also, you should ask for professional advice and have your chosen moving company send their team to your house to inspect how many boxes and packing materials you will need. On that note, if you don’t want to rely on the mover’s company to send you boxes, you can start planning way in advance and ask your neighbors or loved ones to save some boxes for you.

The key is to start collecting packing materials early so you don’t need to make any purchases at the last minute.
